Birkenstock Arizona PAP Flex Platform Birko-Flor

The Most Iconic Sandals in the World - Birkenstock Arizona

Before it became the sandal worn in parks and shopping centers worldwide, Karl Birkenstock first tested it on his own employees. Birkenstock Arizona is now the best-selling and most recognizable model of the brand, a silhouette with two straps that has become synonymous with comfort itself. It was only the third model ever introduced by Birkenstock, yet it ultimately overshadowed all its predecessors and successors. Over fifty years since its inception, it remains virtually unchanged – because there has never been a reason to alter it.

History: The Third Model That Outshone All Others

Karl Birkenstock developed the two-strap Arizona silhouette between 1971 and 1972, and it hit the market in 1973. It was only the third model in the brand's history, following Madrid (1963) and Zurich (1964) – yet Arizona became the one that most distinctly defined Birkenstock to the outside world. Karl Birkenstock tested the first prototypes directly on his employees before the model was released. Since then, the design has remained virtually unchanged, making Arizona one of the most enduring and successful designs in the history of footwear.

Technology: Contoured Cork-Latex Footbed and EVA Sole

What makes Arizona comfortable from the first moment you wear it and even more so after breaking it in are these features:

• Contoured Cork-Latex Footbed: Cork and latex gradually mold to the shape of your foot, creating unique, custom support – ideal for those recovering from plantar fasciitis or wanting to prevent it.
• Suede-Lined Footbed with Foam Layer (in the Soft Footbed version): The added foam layer significantly shortens the typical break-in period for Birkenstocks – the sandal is comfortable practically right out of the box.
• EVA Sole: An extremely lightweight, flexible material that absorbs shocks, is water-resistant, and gentle on the skin – in the EVA version, it forms the entire construction of the sandal.

Design

Two adjustable buckles allow you to fine-tune the width of the sandal to fit the shape of your foot – a simple yet functional detail that makes Arizona fit a wide range of foot types better than many other sandals on the market.

Who This Model Is For

Arizona is a lifestyle silhouette for you if you're looking for the most comfortable and versatile sandal on the market for warm months – perfect for everyday wear, travel, and summer vacations, with arch support you'll appreciate even during long periods of standing.
