Sports Bras

Why proper support matters more than you think

During regular movement, women's breasts can move up to eight centimeters in all directions – without adequate support, this leads not only to discomfort but also to long-term damage to delicate tissue and the so-called Cooper's ligaments, which, unlike muscles, cannot tighten back. A quality high-impact sports bra can reduce this movement by up to 80 percent compared to going braless, making it one of the most important, albeit often underrated, pieces of sports equipment.

Support Levels by Sport Type

  • Low Support: Light, soft bras often without padding, suitable for yoga, pilates, or stretching, where movement is slow and controlled.
  • Medium Support: Firm support without restricting freedom of movement, ideal for fitness, dance, or skating.
  • High Support: Reinforced construction with padding and adjustable straps, designed for running, HIIT, or team sports with sudden changes in direction.

Construction and Technology

What makes a sports bra functional even during intense movement are these elements:

  • Wide Straps and Elastic Materials: Distribute pressure evenly across the shoulders and back instead of digging into the skin during prolonged wear.
  • Seamless Construction: Minimizes chafing and doesn’t create visible lines under fitted workout tops.
  • Ventilation Panels: Placed in critical areas (e.g., between the shoulder blades) to improve airflow during intense sweating.
  • Moisture-Wicking Functional Materials: Blends of polyester, elastane, or nylon with antibacterial treatment that wick away sweat and prevent odor even during long workouts.

Suitable Sports

For running and Hyrox, high support with padding is essential, as these activities involve the highest impact loads. For fitness and strength training in the gym, medium support is sufficient, offering enough stability without restricting arm movement. For cycling and padel, where movement is less vertical but prolonged, a breathable option with medium support and an emphasis on moisture-wicking is more suitable.
