Converse Chuck Taylor All Star 70s: Archival reconstruction of an icon, premium canvas, and authentic craftsmanship from the 70s

Silhouette Converse Chuck Taylor All Star 70s (shortened to Chuck 70) is a cornerstone of premium archival footwear in the Footshop selection. Unlike the standard, mass-produced version of the All Star Classic, the Chuck 70 model is a precise material and construction reconstruction of the sneaker as it was made during its peak basketball and subcultural fame in the 70s. The result is significantly stiffer cotton canvas, a higher glossy rubber trim in the characteristic yellowed vintage shade of egret, and a cushioning insole, which elevates comfort from the realm of a basic canvas shoe to that of a fully-fledged all-day urban sneaker.

The story and archive: The difference between mass production and the architecture of Chuck 70

The story of the Chuck 70 model is a return to the roots of honest craftsmanship, which has been gradually optimized over the decades at the expense of costs:

• The gold standard of the basketball era (70s): In the 70s, Converse was the most popular footwear on NBA courts. To withstand the brutal strain, sharp direction changes, and the weight of players at the time, they featured reinforced seam construction and heavyweight canvas.
• Archival return (2013): In 2013, Converse decided to return to original manufacturing specifications. The Chuck 70 model was created as a tribute to this era – preserving original proportions, a narrower silhouette, prominent stitching on the sides, and historical details.
• Canvas for the most influential collaborations: It is the Chuck 70 model (and not the standard Classic) that is the sought-after choice for leading global fashion collaborations – from deconstructed projects Comme des Garçons Play to visions by Rick Owens (DRKSHDW) and interpretations by Tyler, The Creator (Golf Le Fleur) or A-COLD-WALL*.

Construction architecture and key differences from the basic version

The Converse Chuck 70 model impresses with a combination of top-notch materials and construction details:

• Heavyweight cotton canvas with a weight of 12 oz (340 g): The upper is made from organic, extra-strong cotton canvas. It maintains the shoe's shape well, does not sag, and shows significantly higher resistance to abrasion and tearing.
• Reinforced cross-side stitching (Player’s Stitching): The characteristic arched seam on both the inner and outer sides of the shoe reinforces the stressed flex zone at the toe, where regular canvas shoes most often come apart.
• Raised and lacquered rubber trim in Egret shade: The rubber edging is about 5 mm higher than on the standard version, offering a subtle vintage shine and authentic ivory shade. It effectively protects the canvas from urban dirt and puddles.
• Anatomical OrthoLite® insole: A hidden technological upgrade. The foam insole cushions hard impacts on the heel, provides real arch support, and ensures that your feet won't hurt even after a whole day spent on the streets.
• Black vintage heel patch and detailed embroidery: On the heel, you'll find a historical black logo with three white stars from 1970, and on the high-top version, there is a side patch made from sturdy fabric with embossed details instead of cheap printing.
• Compact rubber toe cap and cotton laces: A smaller, more compact rubber cap and premium flat laces made from quality cotton complete the unmistakable retro profile.

Available variants and profiles of the Chuck 70 silhouette

In the Footshop selection, you'll find the Chuck 70 model in both basic iconic cuts:

• Chuck 70 High: The high-top profile offers maximum ankle support, the historical Chuck Taylor textile patch, and an unmistakable vintage silhouette that serves as the focal point of any fit.
• Chuck 70 Ox (Low): The low version for those, who prefer freedom around the ankles, a more casual cut, and maximum versatility for the warmer months.
