Salomon XA PRO 3D

The legendary terrain shoe that has conquered millions of kilometers - Salomon XA Pro 3D

Salomon XA Pro 3D belongs to the sports category – it’s one of the most successful and longest-produced trail running shoes on the market, designed for quick movement in challenging mountain terrain.

History: developed for elite adventure racers

Between 2003 and 2005, Salomon's designers and engineers collaborated directly with elite adventure racers to develop a shoe that can handle fast running, walking, climbing, and cycling across diverse mountain terrain. The result of intensive testing was the 3D Chassis technology – a flexible, cushioned plate in the midsole that balances stability with flexibility on uneven surfaces.

The XA Pro 3D model entered the global market in spring 2005. Since then, the shoe has sold over a million pairs and completely transformed the mountain multi-sport footwear category – it remains the model that defines this versatility in the mountains and is still produced and sold (currently as version V9), making it one of the most enduring products in the brand's history.

Technology: 3D Advanced Chassis and Contagrip

What makes the XA Pro 3D stable even on technical, uneven terrain are these key elements:

• 3D Advanced Chassis: A rigid thermoplastic (TPU) frame embedded between the midsole and outsole that controls foot flex and adds torsional stiffness – preventing foot twisting on uneven surfaces and providing stability akin to a lightweight hiking shoe.
• All-Terrain Contagrip outsole: Medium depth tread in a traditional layout ensures predictable grip on dirt and gravel, performing well on both wet and dry surfaces.
• Gore-Tex version: In selected models, the membrane ensures waterproofing without sacrificing breathability – crucial when crossing streams or navigating wet terrain.

Durability

The XA Pro 3D is among the most durable trail shoes on the market – while typical trail models last around 300–500 km, users of the XA Pro 3D consistently report a lifespan of 700–1100 km, and in some cases, several years of regular use on trails and in the city. The Contagrip outsole typically outlasts the upper of the shoe.

Who this model is for

The XA Pro 3D is for you if you need a stable and extremely durable shoe for challenging mountain terrain – ideal for trail running, fast hiking, and adventure racing, where stability on uneven surfaces matters more than lightweight design.
