Salomon XT-4 Og GTX

The forgotten predecessor of the iconic XT-6, returning as a fashion classic - Salomon XT-4

Before Salomon's trail shoes became street icons, there was a model that laid the groundwork a few years earlier than its more famous sibling. Salomon XT-4 was originally designed as a purely performance-oriented trail shoe, but over the years it has transformed into one of the brand's most distinctive streetwear silhouettes. Today's OG version remains visually and technically close to the original, even though its purpose has completely shifted in over a decade of existence. It’s a shoe that demonstrates how strongly trail heritage can resonate beyond the mountains.

History: from performance trail shoe S-LAB to streetwear icon

The model first launched in 2012 under the original name XT-Wings S-LAB, referencing its inclusion in the high-performance S-LAB line designed for elite trail runners. As Salomon gradually advanced the technologies of its top trail models, the XT-4 transitioned from an active performance offering to the streetwear category – today’s “Sportstyle” version remains visually very close to the original, but its primary purpose is now the city, not the mountains. This transformation from a technical running shoe to a fashion silhouette foreshadowed the much more well-known story of the later XT-6 model.

Technology: Agile Chassis, SensiFit, and Contagrip

What makes the XT-4 stable and comfortable even in today’s lifestyle version are these elements taken directly from the trail original:

• Agile Chassis System: A full-length, extended outsole framework that creates a large contact surface with the ground – in the terrain, it provided stability over long distances, today it gives the shoe its characteristic chunky look.
• SensiFit: A construction that wraps around the foot from the midsole to the lacing, ensuring a snug, “custom” fit and minimizing movement inside the shoe.
• Contagrip outsole: Chevron tread designed to easily shed dirt, with grooves for flexibility in the forefoot – on the streets, it serves as a prominent, textured visual element.
• Dual-density EVA midsole: A combination of two densities of foam that protected the foot and ensured a soft landing in the terrain, today it adds comfort for all-day wear.
• Quicklace: A quick-lacing system adopted across the entire Salomon trail range – the shoe holds the foot securely without the need for traditional tying.

Design

The XT-4 OG retains the chunky, technical look of the original from 2012 – the combination of a bold outsole, mesh upper, and visible chassis construction makes it one of the most recognizable silhouettes among trail-inspired sneakers.
